New GL2 Camcorders

The ISU English Department has just received two new Canon GL2 camcorders (to replace older, broken Elura 50 camcorders) and are available to students for multimedia work. These camcorders are larger than the (handheld) Eluras, but small and light enough to be carried easily, and yet produce a high-quality video similar to the larger XL1S also available for use. The GL2s should relieve some of the high demand from users for the XL1S. The cameras were funded through LASCAC. Students in the Studio for New Media have already expressed excitement about working with them.
As soon as a few accessories arrive (camera bags, additional rechargeable batteries), these will be available for check-out from 239 Ross Hall, using the Reservation system (in the left "navigation" list of links visible to all Studio members). The cameras have 3-CCD lenses, optical image stabilizers, 20x optical zoom and 400x digital zoom, and they use standard MiniDV cassettes, which are compatible with all the Studio's video-editing equipment.
Those who aren't members of the Studio can reserve the equipment using the usual English Department reservation system, or may contact Sheryl Kamps, in 239 Ross Hall.
